Players LOVE WMS' Wizard of Oz Slots

I was walking through the Orleans yesterday, past the two Wizard of Oz slots that they have, when I heard a woman stop, and positively gush "Oh look, they have IT!" pointing to the Oz slots like it was truly her heart's desire.

She didn't have much chance to play the slots, as they are so popular, people are usually two or three deep in their vicinity watching others play, and hoping to get a turn.

The same is true at Red Rock.

I just don't understand why slot managers don't put in more of these machines. Over the past few months they have proven to be more than a passing interest, like Top Gun or Monopoly Top Box.

For whatever reason, people really love to play the Wizard of Oz.

I've played it enough to know that it gets dull real quick as my credits vanish -- like pretty much every other slot machine. It is fairly volatile, and if you don't get a nice visit from Glinda the Good Witch, or pick well in the Oz bonus, you can kiss your money goodbye.

I'm not sure exactly why this machine is so successful -- maybe it is because there are so few of them, or people just love to hate those flying monkeys.

I’ve also tried the Wizard of Oz machines at Bill’s in Vegas and definitively see the attraction. For me, the dream of getting Wilds across all 5 reels (however remote this may actually be) is enough to keep me interested for a long time. Glinda gave me 3 a few times, but mostly 1 or 2. I’d be curious to hear if anyone has seen 4 or even 5 wild reels yet.

On a semi-related note, just wondering if anyone has seen the new John Wayne machine anywhere in Vegas. My feeling is that the transmissive reels concept is truly amazing from a technical perspective, but the “prototype” implementation (Super Money Grab) leaves plenty of room for improvement. However, the WMS team rarely fails to deliver from a creative perspective, so I’m anxious to see how the follow-up compares to the original. For example, Wizard of Oz is far more appealing than its Top Gun predecessor in my opinion.

On Monday, Mar 24, 2008, Glinda magically appeared to me in her pink bubble. I was playing in the morning at the Luxor and she waved her magic wand and made ALL 5 Wheels on the ENTIRE SCREEN WILDS!!!! It was a gorgeous sight. I always play the minimum. I'm a cheap bettor. I played .05 for 20 lines and I won $1,000 or 20000 nickels. Too bad I don't bet big. I guess that would have been $20,000.

Watched the women sitting next to me at the Tropicana get 4 wilds. She was only playing pennies though, so $130.

I personally think part of the excitement is the sensory experience here. We all remember the Wizard of Oz fondly from our childhood. And when you sit down to play and the music starts coming from the speakers behind you, and makes the seat move, it is fun!

Having said that... I do feel they could have done something with the Tornados. Have them wipe out parts of the screen or something when you get more than 3, or something exciting.

I was playing the Wizard of Oz at the Hollywood Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Glenda gave me 4 wilds 3 times within a 24 hour period. I was playing the max pennies, so I won $1500, $1000, and $1200 on the 4-wilds.

Just last week 8/09 I was at Pechanga casino,ca had to wait 3-hrs for a chance for the penney machine. I was playing oonly .80 and Glinda gave me 5-wilds on 8-free spins. It paid me $851. Security and slot suprv. showed up to watch the payout. I am guessing they had never seen 5-wilds there...
